Fall Flushing November 2021 *UPDATED*

hydrant flushing

Dracut Water Supply District will be performing 2021 fall flushing beginning November 1st and will continue for the next few weeks.  Flushing will be between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. The intent of the flushing program is to clean out the sediment that collects in water mains, to examine the areas that might have lower water pressure, and to inspect the fire hydrants for fire protection.

Flushing of the hydrants will be in the Collinsville area.

If possible, customers should avoid using the water when hydrants are being flushed. This will minimize the dirty water being drawn into your residence. After the flushing, you may experience temporary discoloration, lower pressure and sometimes air bubbles in the water. Run the cold water tap until the water clears. (Outside spigot if possible).  This temporary discoloration only affects the appearance of the water – it does not cause a health or safety risk.

While the water is safe to drink, you should avoid washing laundry during scheduled flushing times, as the flushed sediment could discolor white clothing. Wait until the water runs clear at the tap, then wash a load of dark clothes first. You should also avoid using hot water until the cold water runs clear.

The flushing program is essential in maintaining our water system and providing high water quality to you. Please contact us at 978-957-0441 if you have any questions
about the flushing program.
